“In the vision, I was sitting on a bench,” says Jomeini, her eyes distant. This bond between generations and the handing down of wisdom are an important message for today's disenchanted youth living in a troubled World. Alex and Nonni's loving bond shines through as they share these magickal adventures. 'Magick It Up' will take you on a journey to places that some might only dream of, inspiring both young and old. It is alchemy in the mental rather than the metal sense, altering situations by thought and intent. The two main characters Alex, aged 11, and his adventurous Grandmother, Nonni, are whisked unexpectedly and unconventionally through diverse multiple realities at one time travelling on the backs of bats from crystal caves experiencing the thrill of closely observing wild animals in Africa: discovering fairies in the midst of an English Forest and participating in the wonders of Australia, natural and man made, altogether proving that wishes really can be manifested. The story is based in everyday reality and departs into other dimensions but always returns safely to the present day. It promotes empowerment, hope, and a sense of wonder, with a little history and folklore stirred into the bubbling brew. It is on the cutting edge of new thought for the younger generation. Magick It Up is a hubbly Bubbly metaphysical take with beautiful illustrations. The character of Iris Whittle was inspired by the true life female artist of the time, Lizzie Siddall. Albie lives in a squalid room beneath a brothel with his sister, a prostitute. Remember, this story is set during the time of Charles Dickens, so the reader immediately thinks to compare him to Oliver Twist. In, a poor area of London, lives the diminutive, toothless, pickpocket Albie. I guess in the scheme of things.sales really do work. Tucker and Kane are awesome and I would love to find out more about them. I do have a soft spot for dog stories, so that's probably why it ended up in my cart - but the story itself made me curious to discover a little bit more information about the main characters in this story. I will be honest and say that even though this story was part of an existing series, that I was able to fall in and follow along with the story. And.unfortunately, I realized that a couple of the stories were novellas inside of an existing series. Before I knew it, I had about 30 books (well, more like novellas and short stories) in my cart. Audible had a huge sale a while ago and had many, many short stories and novellas on sale for like $1.00 each. I received an ARC of The Starless Crown from Macmillan-Tor/Forge in exchange for an honest review. What I do know is that I broke my very important rule of not jumping into a series in the middle of said series. I'm not actually sure- I might need to check. I think this might have been my first time with this author. It then follows that story down through the generations, integrating the careers of later creators like Alison Bechdel and the Gen Z artists who are again redefining how the LGBTQ+ comics world looks and where it is found. It tells how a foundational generation of artists, including Howard Cruse, Mary Wings, Jennifer Camper and Rupert Kinnard, fought against censorship of their very existence by creating and distributing their own comics in the 1960s and 70s. No Straight Lines: The Rise of Queer Comics, the Peabody award-winning film-maker Vivian Kleiman’s latest documentary, is about how comics became a site in the struggle for queer people to have room to exist. Those spaces have not always been so easy to find, and creativity has been essential. On his desperate search to find his mother, he encounters ecoterrorists wearing plush animal suits, an election that hangs in the balance as the City's all-powerful Mayor is infatuated with magic refrigerators and outlaw campaigns, and a wise-cracking, over-sexed priest who may or may not have ESP, but who is most certainly his deadbeat dad. When the narrator's single mother, whom he left behind in City, falls out of contact, he fears the worst: his mother is homeless and subsequently to be deported under City to the Pier.
